Whilst in Berlin I visited the Museum of Letters, the world’s first museum that’s entirely dedicated to the preservation and documentation of typographic objects found in public spaces. For over 10 years, the Museum of Letters (or Das Buchstabenmuseum) has saved hundreds of three-dimensional letters from being destroyed by the elements or dumped on a scrap heap, by displaying them as part of urban history. Its halls are like a typographical maze, teeming with beautifully crafted letters and wordmarks in a vast array of shapes, sizes and materials. Their collection is simply incredible and truly has to be seen to be believed.
